CRIMINAL DISTRICT COURT No. 7: Mike Snipes
Republican Livia Liu is a hard-working former chief felony prosecutor who was appointed to the bench last year. Democrat Mike Snipes, a 52-year-old from Dallas is a former federal prosecutor, West Point graduate and retired Army Reserve colonel.
While Judge Liu, 41, from Dallas is smart and efficient, she lacks defense experience and cannot match the breadth of her opponent's résumé. Mr. Snipes has won an array of awards for his work in the U.S. attorney's office and the military, and he has impressive bipartisan support – a difficult feat for a challenger. This race is a close call, but we recommend Mr. Snipes.
